My MP4 can stay 12 hours on max volume. Note: I have it for almost 2 years now and the battery never fails me...
I also suggest. Use the lock function on your MP4/Ipod so the buttons won't be pressed accidentally and make a folder containing the songs you usually play so you will avoid pressing the buttons often. Pressing buttons on MP4/Ipod decreases battery life like cellphones.
