Chapter 5 The Forgotten Wallet
Jahe talaga kahapon.................................................
Nakakainis nakakainis nakakainis!!!!
She stared at Kian’s number for about three hours (uso ang exaggeration ngayon), picked up her phone to text him, only to be greeted with Message Barred.
Bwiset.
Now she has to talk to him and explain, like texting him was her holy duty or something.
Kaya lang, pag hindi niya yun ginawa, Kian would think that she isn’t interested..........
Hold that thought.
Interested.
In what exactly?
Pero teka lang muna, it’s stupid to be jumping to conclusions this early. Malay niya ba, baka talaga friendly si Kian, o baka naman wala lang siyang magawa sa unlimited niya, o baka naman wala siyang assignment at magtatanong sana siya kay Ria.
But shet, if that was the case, sana kinuha niya na lang ang number ni Ria, instead of giving her his number and asking her to text him.
Guys are so weird.
You would think na, because she’s been around so many guy relatives her entire life, Ria would know how a guy’s mind works, but she really doesn’t.
Someone should write a book entitled “What Girls Otta Know About Normal Guys”.
With the emphasis on Normal.
When she looked, grabe, lampas na pala siya sa overpass.
“Para po!” she said, standing up from her seat, but the driver didn’t seem to have heard her, “Para po!!” she said again, loudly.
Grabe, sobrang layo na ng lalakarin niya.
“Manong, STOP!!!!” she cried out desperately.
Miraculously, tumigil ang bus.
Crud... susyal na driver toh, gusto english....
She sighed, trying hard not to let this sour her mood. Ayoko ng wrinkles pag-tanda ko.
Well, maybe the walk would get her to clear some things in her mind.
Why, oh why, did she decide to bring a packed lunch today, kung kelan pa man din tatlo ang dala niyang libro...
To her surprise, somebody pulled the paperbag from her hand. Half-expecting it to be a robber, she was going to try to do her best to hit him, or at least be prepared to run in her school shoes after him, pero pagtingin niya, it was Kian.
For a moment she forgot everything.
Ang corny, pero yun talaga yun eh.
“Tulungan na kita diyan,” he offered politely, though Ria could sense the change in his atmosphere. Hot guys are way damn scary when they’re pissed.
“Sorry ha, kinain yata ng Smart ang load ko kagabi, hindi na kita nai-text,” she blurted out before she could even think about it.
There was a visible change in his mood that encouraged Ria. “Sus, baka naman ayaw mo lang akong ka-text,” he teased, pero may patama din.
Ria kept on repeating her reasons over and over hanggang sa nasa taas na sila ng overpass. Since alangang oras na, walang taong natawid.
Ganda na sana ng mood ni Ria, until may nakita siyang familiar couple na paakyat ng overpass from the other side.
The Damn Insensitive Bastard and his Resident Bad News.
Bakit pa now, of all times, did she have to see them, of all people.
Seeing them was always a big bad slap on Ria’s face. She could, like what she’s been doing quite a lot, tell everyone (who knows) that she is no longer affected, that she doesn’t care anymore, and usually they don’t care anymore, but in the end, hindi rin niya kayang lokohin ni Ria ang sarili niya.
...if I wear a mask, I could fool the world, but I cannot fool my heart...Soundtrack ng Mulan... great.
What a fantastic way to dampen up her mood.
Look straight ahead, just straight ahead.
Pulit-ulit na lang niyang sinabi sa sarili niya. Think doraemon, mata sa harap.
Ofcourse, Ria, being the unlucky girl that she is, should’ve known na things won’t go the way she wants it to. Kian suddenly stopped midway. Alangan namang iwan siya ni Ria don basta-basta? Major rudeness.
“Teka, may nakalimutan yata ako,” he said, tapping his pockets, then searching his bag.
“Ano ‘yon?” Ria asked instinctively.
“Ah, crud...nakalimutan ko nga...”
“Alin nga?” Ria asked again, getting annoyed now.
“Wallet ko...” imaginary anime-ish dark lines of gloom appear. Sinabayan pa ng sound effects.
“Pa’no ka naka-alis sa inyo?” she asked, now sounding hysterical.
“Hinatid kasi ako kanina... teka, pano ba ‘to... Pahiram na lang ako muna ng pera, babalikan ko lang samin, babayaran na lang kita mamaya.”
“Class starts in around five minutes, byahe pauwi, balikan, takes about an hour, gusto mo bang iluto ka ng buhay ni Wason?” Ria told him, un-minding rudeness by calling their prof with nothing but his last name.
“Yes or no?”
“Yes or no what?”
“Pahihiramin mo ba ‘ko o hindi?”
“Hindi nga eh!” Now truly hysterical.
He walked past her, “fine,” coldly, quickly, ditching her.
“Teka nga lang, sandali!”
She really must’ve been in great hysterics, otherwise, hindi niya magagawang hawakan ang kamay ni Kian, tugging still when he refused to stop, “teka nga lang!”
“Bakit ba ha?” his voice a little forceful, obviously, medyo galit na.
“Makinig ka nga muna!!” she shouted at him now, hoping that her after-coffee morning breath was not too intense.
“Look,” he said, calmly this time, “ang break kasi natin ngayon, lunch time lang, kung mamaya ko pa kukunin ‘yon, hindi na ko makakakain ng maayos at hindi na rin ako makakagawa ng assignment.”
“Eh anong balak mo?”
“Hihiram ng pamasahe sa guard...” he replied, medyo nakatungo, like a little embarrassed.
Ria sighed, feeling somewhat defeated. “Pwede naman kasing sagot muna kita ngayon, tapos bukas mo na lang ako bayaran eh. At least wala kang mami-miss na klase, di ba?” she explained.
He seemed to be looking incredulously at her, before flashing a big wide smile of slight surprise, “ba’t di ko naisip ‘yon...”
“Cuz you’re stupid...” Ria replied out of reflex, but she hoped that it sounded like a joke. Her eyes trailed to their joint hands, then realized na hanggang ngayon ay hawak pa rin niya ang kamay ni Kian.
Instantly, she let it go like it was an Abu Sayaff bomb.
But Kian reached out and took her hand back.
“Thank you...” he whispered at her before pulling her towards the campus, not even bothering to let go. “Bilis, late na tayo!”
Yeah, like you’re one to speak! She thought.
Mamaya lang ng konti, she would blush, she could feel it.
Then she realized that she had comletely forgotten about The Bastard ang his Bad News. She wasn’t entirely sure if that was a good thing, or a bad thing, but she was thankful for it.
One heartbreak missed, because of a forgotten wallet.
