Globular cluster M 80 (NGC 6093) in Scorpius is a dense stellar swarm containing several thousands of stars, held together by their mutual gravitational attraction. It is one of the densest globulars in our Milky Way Galaxy. In Greek myth, the scorpion was sent by Gaia to kill Orion the Hunter, after he threatened to kill every animal on Earth. On late spring evenings, Scorpio becomes visible in the eastern sky, at the same time Orion disappears in the west.
