The show was one of the real treats of the 2005 summer season. While there was no real plot or story, that didn’t make any less enjoyable than any regular anime show with a regular continuous plot. The show basically chronicles the everyday lives of 4 little girls and their guardian (who is the eldest sister of one of the girls). Each episode shows the girls doing what children at their age usually do (i.e. studying, having fun and fooling around). Simple isn’t it?! One might think that a premise like this makes the show boring but it all depends on your taste in the end. I, for one, have enjoyed the show immensely because it depicts the innocence of children in a way I haven’t seen before in anime: realistic innocence…pure innocence…unrestrained innocence. It’s innocence at its finest. The show has definitely stuck a chord with me. It’s the kind of show that you either love or hate and I decided to love it.

The animation is fairly consistent with the backgrounds being quite nice. I should mention that many scenes show the characters having long pauses and that reduces the amount of animation needed in every episode. It’s a kind of minimalist approach to animation so don’t expect something exquisite. The character designs can be described with two words…ultra cute, which is basically what you would expect from a show about young children. The designs fit the story very well but some people may need time to adapt to the sight of those wide foreheads each character has (I guess it’s realistic in a way) (^_^;

The music is just sublime. The show boasts one of the most catchy opening songs in anime history…the infamous “Ichigo Complete” which is sung by the whole cast of voice actresses. The ending song is calm, soothing and has a nostalgic feel to it. The music played near the end of the last episode is also fun to listen to. There isn’t a lot of background music in this show but what exists is very nice. The voice acting is well done and the performance of all the voice actresses brings out the true nature of their respective characters.

While the show is basically a comedy, the comedy here isn’t as hilarious as many other anime comedies. It’s still funny in its own unique way. Most of the comedy, though, is inspired or initiated by our little devil Miu (^_^;

What would the show be with out her?!!
