Not exactly the kind of film I was looking for today, but this was good. Might be boring to many, but if you're into art house and politics all together, you should enjoy this. Based on the director's experiences back when he was a kid, this film astonishingly gives you a lucid feel of what it might have been like being there, as if you're part of the story and one with the characters. Society, skinheads, racism, politics and life back in England in 83 is all in this film, and it wishes you to experience it.

Don't be fooled, it's not a horror movie. Rather it's a suspense-thriller, and not even that thrilling. Also known as "The Monster" or "Home Sweet Home", the film stars Shu Qi and Karena Lam. Where Lam stars as a monster-looking homeless woman, reminiscent of the Exorcist --she almost looks like it, just add some more cuts and scars.
Anyway, the story's really disappointing. It's not long til you realize how pointless it is becoming. Reknowned for her movie "So Close", sadly Shu Qi didn't do well in this role. She doesn't look that convincing. Another disappointment is the script. It seem dumb and irksome. Some scenes look absolutely unnecessary.

This film was my first glimpse of Korean cinema back in 2003. And it was funny how I ended up watching it. It just happened that I ran out of new animés to check on, that I finally decided to give in and watch other Asian films (live-action for that matter). "My Sassy Girl" was first on the list.
Although I was already familiar with how good Korean animation have become (see "Oseam" and "Wonderful Days"), I wasn’t expecting something as good and entertaining as this movie. To those alien to Asian movies this is a good movie to start with, and you'd surely change your views towards Asian movies.
A Hollywood remake is due out this 2007, starring Jesse Bradford playing the part of Cha Tae-hyun, and Elisha Cuthbert playing the part of Jeon Ji-hyun. But honestly I'd probably stick with the original no doubt.
