Requirements: Adobe Photoshop Any Version Ok Lets start~ This is a simple tutorial in Photoshop where you can easily fade the edges of any shape, lets say a flower, for a elegant effect. Open a blank document in Photoshop. I will be working in a 200px by 200px canvas, which gives me room to create more than one flower/shape. Here's the final result of this tutorial: [img]http://i27.tinypic.com/34gna.jpg[/img] Select your favourite colour. I will be using this pink colour: #FF5777 Select the shape tool (refer to the image below). [img]http://i29.tinypic.com/5v6c6u.jpg[/img] Now up top, you will select a flower shape (or any shape you want, PS comes with loads of default ones!). [img]http://i27.tinypic.com/icu7py.jpg[/img] Now, click and drag your mouse so that the shape will appear on your canvas and you may adjust the size of it. A trick is to hold down the Shift Key so that the shape resizes at a fixed ratio (not distorted). Don't be alarmed if you see an outline on your shape, we will "get rid of it" in the next step, however I should let you know that even if you see the outline, once you click on a different layer, it disappears. The outline only indicates the shape and is nonexistent when you save the graphic. Here is how mine looks like so far: [img]http://i25.tinypic.com/6rlft3.jpg[/img] Next, we will Rasterize Layer by right-clicking on the Shape Layer and selecting the option from the drop-down menu. Follow the image below for more instruction on how to do this: [img]http://i30.tinypic.com/5waw6t.jpg[/img] Now, Shape 1 should still be your selected layer, not background. Hold down the Ctrl key on your keyboard and click on the shape layer once more. Your flwer should be now outlines with a dancing dotted line like the follow: [img]http://i29.tinypic.com/3520y01.jpg[/img] This next step is where you can really experiment! Photoshop comes with the option to "feather". Go to Select > Feather... (or click 'Ctrl + Alt + D' for a shortcut. a screen will prompt you to choose a number. Here are my settings: [img]http://i32.tinypic.com/2gu9uoj.jpg[/img] We are going to fade the edges of the flower two different ways. One way is to fade the edges inside and the other is fading the edges toward the outside. [i]Faded Inside:[/i] click Delete on your Keyboard to delete the Selected feathered area. [img]http://i30.tinypic.com/142xw5z.jpg[/img] [i]Faded Outside:[/i] We will invert the selection, meaning instead of selecting what’s inside the flower, we will be selecting outside (the white background) To do so, go to Select > Inverse or use 'Ctrl + Shift + I' for a shortcut. Again, just click Delete on your Keyboard to delete the Selected feathered area. If the edges are a bit faint, press delete a few more times. I pressed delete 3 times. I find this feature comes in useful, even for blending in images as well as faded edges effects on graphics. You can experiment with all sorts of shapes!
