I used Photoshop CS2 for this.
Create a new blank, transparent file. Click on the Rectangular Marquee tool (or simply press M in your keyboard).

Now, go to Select » Modify » Smooth. Usually, I put in 7 or 8 for a nice curve, but of course you have your own personal selection. This will curve the edges.

It's time to color our transparent file! You can use colors or patterns if you want. Right click on the Gradient Tool and choose the Paint Bucket Tool (or simply press G in your keyboard).
