A pregnant woman in Arkansas learned she was pregnant again when she went in for a routine ultrasound. The babies are not twins, and were conceived two and a half weeks apart.
This is an extremely rare medical occurrence called superfetation, with only 10 other cases being reported. The phenomenon is much more common in animals, due to a delay of implantation.
In June, doctors located Todd and Julia Grovenburg’s growing baby girl Jillian, and noticed a smaller baby growing beside her.
