This happens if you install the OS right? Or already installed but causes BSOD. Anyway... try resetting the bios and fix the HDD master/slave functions. Is it an ATA drive?

Is it an ATA drive?[/quote] I have install the OS right. And after a few months this error occur. BTW, the HDD is IDE, an old type of HDD and I olny have 1 HDD. Well I have reset the bios and fix the HDD master/slave function. Nothing Happens.

I see... try to chkdsk first with /f parameter before trying the ideas below... Install recovery console. Boot from XP CD and try recovery console. Follow the steps until and expand pci.sys. Usually it fixes it, even the other corrupted C:\Windows files. Though if it still doesn't work. Try troubleshooting the HDD or the RAM. Because reformatting may be pointless.
