Anyone tried both? What are your opinions on each. I haven't stayed in a dorm but from what I can tell its a great way to meet friends but also a great way to get stuck with people you can't stand.

i tried both 
i think the apartment is a bit better if you want to study cause there are no rules regarding what time you can eat or what time you have to sleep 
.
besides you can meet many new people who aren't from your school
