I haven't stayed in a dorm but from what I can tell its a great way to meet friends but also a great way to get stuck with people you can't stand.
Dorm is typically pricier then staying at apartments and its also hard to concentrate when staying in dorms.
If I were to do it all over..I'd prolly stay in dorms for like a quarter/semester. I don't think I can stay there longer then that...I like my privacy at times.

i tried both 
i think the apartment is a bit better if you want to study cause there are no rules regarding what time you can eat or what time you have to sleep .
besides you can meet many new people who aren't from your school

for me, its better living in apartments when u go for school boarding. y? u can move freely when u are on apartments and u can feel the freedom and independence than living on dormitories, plus when u live on dormitories, expect strict rules for your safety. hehe just my opiniion
