I promised before that I would be doing an english story. Here it is. I hope you will take time to read it. Some events that I will write here happened to me in real life. I kinda got inspired. Hehe...
School Rivals, Love Partners September 10, 2008 Chapter 1 “If I were you, I’d rather not expect a lot from that university,” I said. “Why are you saying that? You shouldn’t say bad things about this SCU just because they are our school’s rival,” my friend, slash neighbor, slash managing editor, Princess said. “Believe me. I go here almost every year since I entered high school because they’ve been hosting programs and inviting our school over but I find our school better than theirs. I expected a lot from this university before too and that had gotten me nowhere,” I simply replied. “Whatever you say Chin,” The name’s Chin. Chin Suarez, currently a junior in Divine Will Academy. I am a staff writer of our school paper. Key words: outspoken, candid, insightful, moody and complicated. That’s me. Divine Will Academy (DiWA) and South Crest University (SCU) are schools that had been rivals since who knows when. Yeah, I really don’t know. All I know is when I transferred to DiWA, the two schools had been rivals already. They are neighboring schools, probably not more than a kilometer away from each other. Although DiWA focuses primarily on Pre-school to High School and SCU offers Pre-school to college, that didn’t stop the two schools from the competition. “If not for this Division Training for Campus Journalism, I wouldn’t be here, Princess. You should know that better.” “I do, Chin. I really do. I know I dragged you here. I’m sorry. I know you are busy.” “It’s okay. I wanted the experience anyway, although I don’t like the place where it’s going to be held.” Today is the Division for Campus Journalism for Private Schools. It is one of the biggest competitions for journalism. Our school sent 14 representatives for the different competitions. Almost all were editors. There were only a few of us who weren’t. “Okay. We’re here.” “Thank you, Kuya. It will end around 5PM.” “I’ll be back to fetch you guys by then.” “Okay people, we’re here. Are you fired up? You better be because we’re in for a really tight competition here.” Ate Belle told us. Ate Belle is our Editor-in-Chief, currently a senior. I’ve been with her since elementary. We are often in the same competition, both representing our respective batch. For this contest, while I was going to join copy reading and headline writing in English, she was holding Filipino. We entered the auditorium of SCU, aware of the eyes that were staring at us. It isn’t new to me. Whenever DiWA students come to SCU, it is not unusual if they stare or murmur. We know we aren’t really welcome here. See the real rivalry? This is the third time that I am entering this school. Twice, it had been for leadership training. Now, it is for a journalism competition. My very first journalism competition and it will be held in our rival school. This is great, just great. “Ate Belle, I need some time to refresh, can I go out for a while?” “I understand that you are nervous. Sure you may. Be quick. The auditorium will be filled after some time.” I walked out of the room and strolled. I know this university quite well because I was able to have a tour here before. Out of the corner of my eye while I was walking, I saw a familiar face. Jonathan; he who had been a friend. He used to study at DiWa but he transferred here. I saw him with some of the SCU students. For a minute I wasn’t sure whether I would greet him or ignore him. I don’t know how I should react. “Hi Jonathan,” I said and tried to smile. “Hey,” he said bluntly. “Jonathan, we didn’t know you were friends with a DiWA student,” one of the boys said. Some of them even raise their eye brows. Jonathan shrugged and said plainly, “I used to friends with her.” Then he rolled his eyes. Used to. Used to. Used to. It was in past tense. I was so hurt about what he said that I just suddenly snapped, “Yeah, we used to be friends… before he got expelled.” I walked passed him. I wanted to bump him but I decided not to. Can transferring to a rival school really turn friends into rivals as well? What had gotten into Jonathan? Doesn’t he realize that I am his friend, Chin?
@ yhanikz: tnx. itz my first english story. d other 2 had been in taglish. tnx 4 readng this. :D
Chapter 2 I should’ve known it would be like this. Things would not stay the same, especially if you transfer to a new environment. I shouldn’t probably think about these kinds of things too much. I shouldn’t think about what happened with Jonathan too much. I returned to the auditorium and sat beside my schoolmates. We waited for almost an hour before the program started. The programs started late for more than 30 minutes. However, we cannot do anything about that of course. During the opening ceremony, all schools that were going to participate were called. Well, at least all schools except for us. That incident made me complain. I called one of the CAT officers of SCU who were the people in charge of the program and asked her why our school wasn’t called. “Did you register outside the auditorium?” “Yes. Yes, we did.” “Did you send all the requirements before going here?” “Of course,” I was getting a bit impatient with all the officer’s questions until I suddenly said, “Listen. We have the program’s memo here. We sent all requirements. We registered. We paid the fee. All we want is the recognition. Don’t you think you’re being rude of you wouldn’t be mentioning our school’s name?” I guess the CAT officer was pissed off with me already (but so am I with her!) so she called another officer. She waved her hands to a guy and called him by the name Brian. Brian walked towards me. “I see, you’re school was not recognized. We’re sorry. There should’ve been a mistake.” “You should be sorry. It’s not as if this was the first time it happened to us here in SCU.” “We’re really sorry. We’ll try to fix this.” “Thank you.” Yes, as I said, this isn’t the first time. The other two times I went here, this happened to us too. DiWA wasn’t recognized. I am getting the feeling that they are doing it purposely already. Brian’s POV The CAT officer waved her hands at me and called. She told me about a girl complaining that their school was not recognized. From her uniform, I knew she was from the “other” school. I knew too that their school’s not being able to be distinguished during the ceremony was on purpose. It must have been the rivalry. After all, this isn’t the first time SCU officers did this to DiWA students. I approached her and spoke in a calm manner, “I see, you’re school was not recognized. We’re sorry. There should’ve been a mistake.” “You should be sorry. It’s not as if this was the first time it happened to us here in SCU.” “We’re really sorry. We’ll try to fix this.” “Thank you.” I did fix the problem. We had a public apology and mentioned their school. By the way, I am Brian Fortes. I am a senior here in SCU and a CAT officer. I don’t like describing myself that much. That girl, the one from DiWa, is a bit demanding yet I couldn’t blame her. I might do something worse if the same thing happened to me. Nevertheless, I can’t help but remember what happened that morning. She was Jonathan’s friend. She may have not seen me but I had seen and heard what happened. She is strong and not to mention, beautiful too. Just who is that girl whom I had only noticed for almost an hour and had earned my admiration already?
@ mystic rain: another edition? i guess u could say that. :) @ dess29: i am glad u do. @ yhanikz: thanks. i am having a hard time upd8ing this immediately. @ njblxii: haha. thank god i am not yet having one of my nosebleeds =) @ gossipgirl03: here's the next chappie. i don't rily know wat 2 write so sori 4 ds chap.

lets kip our fingers crossed so that i cud upd8 this immedi8ly. i still hav lots of things 2 do. our division training for campus journalism had just ended last friday. nxt month, we hav d division press conference 2 attend. fmiliar? well, now u know how i got d setting for ds story. :D haha
Chapter 3 The training will last for three days and so all schools will be here for three days too. Today is just my first day so I would need to hold on until this finishes. For the first day, photojournalism, sports writing, and copy reading and headline writing were going to have their lecture then contest proper afterwards. Since per category it is divided into two (English and Filipino), both categories had a different lecture. I am our representative in copy reading and headline writing – English as I had mentioned before. By 2 in the afternoon, the category which I was participating in was called. However because the auditorium was being used, we needed to proceed to another venue: the gym. I knew where it was so I went there alone. “Aw. It’s raining.” “Here, take my umbrella.” It was Brian, the CAT officer that morning. “It’s okay. I’ll survive without your umbrella. Besides, you’ll get wet.” “Don’t bother me. This is my school after all, so I’ve got clothes in my locker.” “Really. But then—“ Too late. He put the umbrella in my hands and ran before I could even protest about it. When he ran, he turned back to smile and wave. “You don’t even know me. Moreover, I am from your rival school. Why are you being so nice?” That was what I whispered. I didn’t notice that there was a girl behind me. “He’s so kind. He’s cute as well, isn’t he?” she said, “by the way, I’m Bea from St. Agatha of Sicily Institute.” “I don’t really know what to say about Brian, that guy a while ago. Well, I’m Chin of Divine Will Academy. Are you heading to the Gym too?” “Yes, I am. I take it we’re from the same category.” “I think so. Come on, let’s walk together.” That’s when I earned my first friend from another school. Bea and I walked together and sat beside each other in the lecture. She was a senior already and was a news editor on their school. She’s really nice and although her hair was colored brown and highlighted with tangerine; she wore thick eye glasses; her eyes had mascara and black eye liner on, she was pleasant in a way. After the lecture, we immediately proceeded with the contest, I think I’m not bad for a first-timer but it certainly isn’t enough to be in the top 10 out of the 60 schools that were participating. With that, I didn’t worry myself about expecting a high rank. Then of course, there’s still the umbrella I have to return, which I had only remembered after I noticed that the sun was already shining. Bea had been called by her schoolmates, and even though she insisted on accompanying me I told her I can do it by myself; so here I am, alone. How am I supposed to return this? I don’t even know his whole name. I wandered in the campus trying to find him. I was heading in no particular direction actually until Barby saw me. “Chin!” “Barby!” Barby is a friend. She used to study in DiWA but since her sister was a teacher at SCU, she was transferred here. Nevertheless, we kept in touch. “Hey Barby, do you know a senior named Brian?” “Oh. You mean the Brian Fortes? He’s a real heartthrob here.” “Yes, I think it’s him. I need to return to him something.” “Is that so? You’ll find him in the CAT room across the library hall. Do you want me to come with you?” “No thanks. Anyway, I’ll talk with you later okay? Thanks again.” “Hey, Chin!” “Yes?” “Be careful. You know how SCU students are with you guys.” “Don’t worry. I’m stronger than them. Thanks for the concern, though.” That made me quite nervous. I am strong but this is not my territory so I need to be careful with my actions. I couldn’t simply fight back. I knocked on the CAT room door which was half-opened. There were 2 boys and a girl inside the room. The girl was the one I had a discussion with this morning; the one whom I got mad at. “Good afternoon. I am looking for Brian Fortes. A friend told me I could find him here.” “Oh. He’s not yet here. How about we have a little chat for a while?” “I prefer not. I guess I’ll be leaving what I had borrowed from him and then go out.” “That is if we will allow you to go out.” “You’ve got nothing to gain if you will ask me to stay here.” “You’re probably one of those girls trying to sneak in here to get Brian’s attention.” “I am not that shallow.” “Is that what Brian thinks?” Urgh. I just wanted to return something. Why do I need to be stuck here?
@ maree12: i am inspired 2 write bcoz of our rival skul... haha @ clykie: i'm xcited 2. tnx 4 d compliments :D --so hapi 2 update this! haha--
Chapter 4 I closed my eyes and hope this would end. “What he thinks doesn’t matter,” I snapped. “Ooh. Is that what you call the ‘Divine Will’ spirit? You are indeed courageous just to step your foot in this school.” “I would rather not take insults from those who do not know me.” “Ooh… How scary!” “Is that how you are supposed to behave South Crest-lites?” “Sir. Sorry, Sir.” “I believe it is not me who deserves your apology.” “There’s no need for any apologies. I just came to return this.” I left his umbrella on the desk then walked out of the room. I seldom do this but I did anyway. I whispered to myself, “Curse you South Crest-lites.” Brian’s POV “Hey Brian,” a girl called out. It was Barby. “Oh, Hi Barby,” I said. “A friend of mine said she wanted to see you so I asked her to go to the CAT room. Why not go and check up on her.” Who might she be? “Why do I need to check up on her?” “She’s from the ‘other’ school.” “D*mn!” “Why?” “Some other CAT officers are there. They might bully her!” I ran and went to the CAT room. What would the officers do? Who is the girl from DiWA? “What he thinks doesn’t matter,” “Ooh. Is that what you call the ‘Divine Will’ spirit? You are indeed courageous just to step your foot in this school.” “I would rather not take insults from those who do not know me.” “Ooh… How scary!” I entered the room and saw the girl. She was the one who had earned my admiration. “Is that how you are supposed to behave South Crest-lites?” “Sir. Sorry, Sir.” “I believe it is not me who deserves your apology.” “There’s no need for any apologies. I just came to return this.” She placed the umbrella I lent her and walked away. “I will meet you later. Demerits will be given to you!” I left the room as well and tried to follow “the girl.” “Miss! Excuse me, miss!” She is so hot headed yet I couldn’t blame her (again) because if that happened to me I would have felt the same too. She looked at me and walked faster. I quicken my pace too until I reached her. “I’m really sorry about what happened in there.” “I don’t know what to say. I want to tell you that it is okay but it I would be lying if I said that. I do think we deserve respect despite the rivalry.” Whoah. That was straight and it hits the spot too. “I don’t know how to respond too because I know it was our fault.” “I should probably go. I need to cool down or else I might tell hurtful things.” Then she went away. That was our first serious conversation… well, should I consider it like that? I am unsure actually. “Calling Brian Fortes, please proceed to the auditorium. Brian Fortes to the auditorium please.” Auditorium, a task again for the journalism training. Will I see her there?

@ ashley pain15: our dspc will b on october. pressure ryt? hehe @maree12: u'll find out here y chin is lyk dat. ---this one's long. y? bcoz i still nid 2 rview 4 our term exams so i myt b gone for quite some time. enjoy this chappie. ciao!---
Chapter 5 Continuation of Brian’s POV I walked inside the auditorium and the organizer of the training called me. I did a lot of things that day and I didn’t get the chance to see her. I met my co-CAT officers who all got demerits and were reported to the dean. I went home with Barby. With her, I was able to talk about the girl from the “other” school. I found out that her name was Chin Suarez. She is a debater and is running for honors for her senior year. She was focusing in their school’s debate team so during her freshmen and sophomore year, so she wasn’t able to join the school paper right away. She used to be a vocalist for her band. Too bad she needed to give it up because she had a lot to take care of. She has two younger brothers who were both still in elementary. Her mother works in the HR department of a high company. I can’t help but notice that she didn’t mention anything about Chin’s father. “Some people misinterpret Chin because of how she acts. She is independent, matured and goal-oriented. She is very frank too. However, if you get to know her well, you’ll see a soft side; one that shows that she is still young and humorous.” “Why is she like that? She seems to be more serious than other girls her age? How about her father, where is he?” “I don’t really know the whole story. She doesn’t talk about it that much. Still, in one of our recollections, I guess it was too heavy for her to handle. She shared that she was from a broken family. Her father had another family and they end up moving out of their house. Since she was the eldest and her mother has to work, she was given a big responsibility in the house and with her brothers. That is probably why she is very serious and independent. She doesn’t like it whenever others get aggravated.” That moment, I wished I didn’t ask so many questions about her anymore. Yet what I found out about her made me more curious about her. It made me admire her more too. Chin’s POV I didn’t see Brian during the remaining hours that we were at SCU. The next day, I was too busy with more lectures (which of course, I spent with Bea and other friends which I was able to meet) that I wasn’t able to spend much time with my schoolmates as well. But I think that’s good too. If I wasn’t busy, I’ll just keep thinking about what happened the previous day. On our last day, it was more of a free time for us. The advisers were asked to go to a certain room for their meeting, leaving all students in the auditorium for a talent show. Each school was encouraged to participate. “Hey Chin. You used to sing in a band, right?” Ate Belle asked me. “Yes but that was before. I haven’t been singing in a band for months. Why?” “Let’s join the talent show. After all, I don’t think you could’ve lost your voice by not singing for a few months right?” “Could we do it?” “Sure, I could play the guitar for you.” It wasn’t compulsory and I wasn’t planning to join too. However, since a lot were participating, it was a shame if I didn’t. My schoolmates listed both Ate Belle’s and my name with the name of our school. After a few minutes, our names were called. “To render us a song entitled “Breathe (Until Tomorrow)” by Paramore, Here are Chin Suarez and Belle Estrella of Divine Will Academy. Let’s give them a big hand!” As we enter the floor, audience was silent. When I reached the microphone and Ate Belle was able to position herself on the stool, the guitar started playing while I closed my eyes and began to sing. I climb, I slip, I fall Reaching for your hands But I lay here all alone Sweating all your blood If I could find out how To make you listen now Because I'm starving for you here With my undying love And I, I will Breathe for love tomorrow Cause there's no hope for today Breathe for love tomorrow Cause maybe there's another way I climb, I slip, I fall Reaching for your hands But I lay here all alone Sweating all your blood If I could find out how To make you listen now Because I'm starving for you here With my undying love And I, I will Breathe for love tomorrow Cause there's no hope for today Breathe for love tomorrow Cause maybe there's another way (2x) I climb, I slip, I fall Into your empty hands But I lay here all alone Sweating all your blood My throat was dry after singing that I wasn’t able to say anything but smile. At least I hit the notes right and my timing was accurate. The crowd broke into applause and I felt proud of myself. Exactly after our performance, I proceeded to the backstage with Ate Belle. “See Chin? It wasn’t bad. You did great!” “Thanks Ate. You did great too.” “I’ll go ahead. It seems like someone wants to talk to you.” It was Brian. He walked towards where I was. “That was a good performance. I’m amazed.” “Thank you.” Our small talk was interrupted by the emcee. “Brian, you’re up next.” He turned to me apologetically. “It’s okay. Go ahead. Break a leg.” I returned to my seat along with my schoolmates. I watched as Brian performed. “Now it’s the turn of South Crest University. I’ll assume that a lot of you know him. He will be singing “Signal fire” by Snow Patrol. Our very own, Brian Fortes!” A lot of girls seem to be familiar with him because a lot of them were cheering for him. Almost everyone clapped their hands, and so did I. He sat on the middle of the stage with his keyboard. Then, he started playing. The perfect words never crossed my mind, 'cause there was nothing in there but you, I felt every ounce of me screaming out, But the sound was trapped deep in me, All I wanted just sped right past me, While I was rooted fast to the earth, I could be stuck here for a thousand years, Without your arms to drag me out, There you are standing right in front of me (x2) All this fear falls away to leave me naked, Hold me close cause I need you to guide me to safety No I won't wait forever(2x) In the confusion and the aftermath, [these lyrics are found on http://www.songlyrics.com] You are my signal fire, The only resolution and the only joy, Is the faint spark of forgiveness in your eyes, There you are standing right in front of me (x2) All this fear falls away to leave me naked, Hold me close cause I need you to guide me to safety, There you are standing right in front of me (x2) All this fear falls away to leave me naked, Hold me close cause I need you to guide me to safety, No I won't wait forever(x3) He stood up and waved. Then, when he saw me, I don't know if I just imagined it but I think he winked at me. After he sang, I swear that’s the time I was struck about how cute he was.
@ maree12: ahaha... chin may appear hard but i don't think she could resist brian's charm. haha @ cutiegal: aww. tnx. i hope u'll continue reading. eniwei, a friend of mine started fixing a blog in wordpress to compile my works. i'll tell u when it's done. @ ashley_pain15: rily. tnx. gud luck 4 u 2.
Chapter 6 I went out of the auditorium after Brian sang. I don’t know why but I just did. I proceeded to the football field where I was all alone. I sat on one of the benches and released my hair from my ponytail and let it be blown by the. I need time to think. I need to think. **2 days ago** “Don’t you understand? I told you that you can’t continue being with me. We should end this or else I would be doing things against the will of my mother. I tried so much to convince her that I could handle being with you yet she simply do not agree! You know my situation.” “She wouldn’t agree at first but let me talk to her. Chin, we can work this out.” “We wouldn’t. Things are complicated at home. I’ve never experienced anything like this before.” “Am I not worth the sacrifice?” “For God’s sake Christian, we’re only in junior high! Do you expect me to sacrifice my family for—“ “Am I not worth the sacrifice Chin?!” I turned my back at him and tears fell from my eyes. “You don’t have to answer. I think I know your answer anyway.” ** “I’m sorry if you’re not worth the sacrifice,” I whispered as I cry silently. “They say a lady’s tears are too precious to just fall. Take the handkerchief and let it catch your tears,” I recognized the voice and so I accepted the handkerchief. I was relieved that at least somebody was with me. “Why do you seem to appear whenever I need somebody?” “It’s probably destiny,” he smiled as he said it. “Destiny? You’re crazy!” I said while laughing. “Brian Fortes. Senior. CAT officer. Football player. Plus, I’m from the school you hate most, SCU.” Then he extended his hand. I shook his hand and replied, “Chin Suarez, Junior. Staff Writer. Debater. Ex-vocalist. Proud to be studying inDiWA. I’m a part-time actress too, as you had seen. Not to mention, a very good actress.” “Well, if those tears were part of your acting then you’re a very good actress, indeed.” I laughed again. I see, so Brian isn’t only cute. He’s got a nice attitude too. I told him all about Christian. “Christian Verceluz is the guy I like. He’s the same age as I am and is courting me actually but my mother didn’t like the idea. My mother took this against me that she wouldn’t even talk or bother to look at me. Because of that, I decided to follow my mother even though it was against what I really feel...” I told Brian everything including the fight Christian and I had just two days ago. “If he had been able to say those kinds of things it means that he values you. I’m sure he’ll understand it but give him some time first. It’s not that easy to move on.” After that, we talked about other stuffs. He probably was trying to make me get rid of whatever was bothering me. At least, he managed to do it even for just a while. Suddenly, his cell phone rang. “Excuse me.” “Sure, take it.” After a minute or two, he came back. “They’re looking for me already. We should probably head back to the auditorium.” “Go ahead; I’ll follow after a few minutes.” “Are you sure?” “Yes. Don’t worry, I’ll be fine.” He smiled and left. He’s one busy guy. I sat alone and checked my watch. We’ve been talking for almost an hour! I fixed my hair into a ponytail again because if Princess sees me with my hair down, she’ll know something is wrong. I only let my hair down either when something is bothering me or I am overjoyed. I can’t remember when I started being like that but that’s the way I am. I stood up from where I was seated and circled the whole field. In time, you will be over me, Christian; I’ll be over you as well. That’s a promise. ** “Hey Chin! Let me remind you that tomorrow will be the deadline of your article.” “Yes Ate Belle. You’ll have it first thing in the morning.” “We also have a session this Saturday to prepare for the official journalism contest, the DSPC, remember?” “Yes. Yes. I will be there. Can I go now?” “Okay. Go ahead; I know you are excited to see your old friends. Take Care” “Thanks Ate Belle! Bye!” It’s been a month since we had the training in SCU. Brian and I didn’t manage to keep in touch. I wasn’t able to get his number or his e-mail add or anything. At first there is a bit of disappointment on my part (he was cute and nice!) but after a while, I got over it. Christian and I are trying to avoid each other too. Although we try to talk sometimes, it is always limited to short chats. Today, my friends and I are going to have a little get-together with some of our other close pals who transferred already. I’m really excited already. We fixed to meet in McDonalds since there will only be around eight of us. I’m so happy that I will be able to see my friends again. This time, we’ll be complete. We were supposed to meet by 5P.M. and I am 15 minutes late. That’s okay. Better lat than never, haha. When I reached McDo, they were all there already. I smiled when I entered. “Ohmigosh. You’re such a prima donna!” Princess exclaimed. “Don’t make such a big deal out of this, Cess. I needed to talk to Ate Belle first before I could go here.” “Take a seat anyway. Barby and the others had been waiting for a long time here” “I’m sorry guys. I didn’t mean to make—“ I was cut short when I saw the guy heading towards our table. “Why is he here?”
