friendster is doing it by batches. there are millions of accounts remember? These are stored in several databases or servers. I observed that my accounts where my friends are back already are no longer getting the "temp maintenance" message. Some of my accounts which earlier gave wrong number of friends says temporary maintenance. Some accounts that can still be opened but showing wrong number of friends presumably will be attended to later, maybe after the current batch. But there are times when the entire friendster site is under maintenance. I suppose that these are times wherein the newly recovered batch is being incorporated into the entire system. Of course they cannot do it while running.
