Mr. Mendoza was already upset even before he saw on television what the policemen did to his brother. The other tourists who remained inside the bus were complaining. Wei Ji Jiang wanted to go to the bathroom. Dao Chi Yu was hungry and the rest were just groaning and whining like they have forgotten that our lives rest in Mr. Mendoza’s hands. The hostage taker, as you know him was really nice. He treated us okay and even let the elders and the children leave the bus. He said your policemen treated him unfairly. He was a policeman too and was accused of doing something he had no knowledge of. But your government didn’t listen so he used us to get everyone’s attention. Things would have never turned for the worst if he didn’t see how his family was dragged out of their house and taken into custody. He was watching the news all the time as we huddled around each other behind the bus. He shouted some words in your language then started shooting in the air. A girl about my age started screaming. Mr. Mendoza demanded her to stop but she didn’t understand English. God, he had to slash her neck with a knife just to put her to rest. Her boyfriend who tried to hit him was shot in the head. Tension was rising. You can see in his face how scared and confused he was. The bus driver ran away leaving him alone with strangers from a distant land. I can see him walking across the aisle, sometimes pointing his machine gun to one of the tourists. But he tried his best not to hurt us, especially those who really cooperate. I guess its in your nature not to inflict pain on others unless it was necessary. I remember him saying that he will free us before sundown and implored us to forget everything when we return home. But his words don’t matter now. The policemen were trying to force their way in, while we all lied down to shield ourselves from bullets. Mister Mendoza blindly shoots at his enemies which I think kept them from rescuing us. I hear sobs under the chairs. Some were even shouting the names of their loved ones even when the air merely eat their words. Kevin Tang tried to escape when the glass door was was shattered, but one shot and he slumped on the floor with blood gushing from his mouth. Heavy rain pitter-pattered on the rooftop. In old Chinese saying, it means an end to a struggle. Finally, somebody was able to open the escape hatch at the back of the bus. Freedom. But I knew Mister Mendoza was still alive. I knew he was just waiting for a chance to strike back at his enemies. So I told those around me not to escape. Let the authorities come for us instead. Then there was gunfire. He was firing at his enemies with a machine gun. Those who were at the escape hatch fled abandoning us once again. It’s like a nightmare with no end and to wake up means a certain death. Then somebody from outside the bus threw a canister. It forced out a black smoke that is so painful to the eyes and putrid smelling to the nose. People started screaming. We cannot breathe. Some ran in front of the bus but Mister Mendoza warned them of stray bullets. It was too late. One was hit on the head, the other was hit on the shoulders. Bullets were now flying. Its like the authorities thought we were all dead. Mister Mendoza finally admits his mistake and said sorry to everyone, dead or alive. He then ran towards the front of the bus where he would meet his maker. As he passed by my chair with bullets whistling overhead, I clutched my hand on the velvet curtain and wrapped it around my face. All I could think of was to stay alive - for my child who is waiting for me back in Xinjang. I know I will survive, I will come home. Link of the blog... I think... http://gmaseven.blogspot.com/2010/08/open-letter-from-bang-lu-min-survivor.html I don't remember any Bang Lu Min, in the hostage event. I am more concerned about the aftermath of the hostage event, rather than the hostage event itself. Sounds cruel but usually the aftereffects of a crisis is much more devastating than the crisis itself... in my opinion anyway. Also, the media was stupid for showing the capturing of the perpetrator's brother live on air. There is this thing called media block and common sense, but those obviously skipped their mind causing panic to Mendoza. In a rightful point of view. It was the media's fault not the MPD. But of course, due to stereotypical views and the media having power to bend information, that point of view was left out, causing us to be blacklisted in various countries and to be ridiculed by our country's lack of security measures against terrorist. Just think about this... Who will not be angry and agitated if you see some people harassing your family member/s on air for everyone to see? Even it they're harassing them for good intension and national purpose... In my opinion... it will make everyone panicky, lose their rationality and sanity. :penguin:

None of this would happen if the policemen didn't arrest his brother and if his family wasn't dragged out of their house. And also if the media didn't show it on television because if they didn't show it on television, Mendoza wouldn't kill anyone. I mean -- if he didn't see what had happen before he was 'home', then he will not kill people. But I think it was his way to get attention from the ombudsman or whatever. He didn't have a job for like, 9 months. And he sent a letter to the ombudsman 3 times. Three times. And it was ignored. Who wouldn't be infuriated? And if I know, his family was nearly dying of hunger. What else could he do?
None of this would happen if the policemen didn't arrest his brother and if his family wasn't dragged out of their house.
- It was because he yelled "Wag kang papayag hhangga't di nila ibinabalik ang baril ko," while they were negotiating with his brother! And he IS a policeman, so he knows that it's not right to resist arrest (it wasn't even arrest at first, he was just invited to the precinct so he won't interfere with the negotiation anymore.) It was the media's fault, knowing (common sense, of course) there's a TV inside the freaking bus and they still documented that part! He was wild because there was MEDIA. He went there to negotiate with his brother with a gun!
he had to slash her neck with a knife just to put her to rest.
- Holy fcking sht. Mendoza is just another common criminal to begin with, they could have killed him using many options available. Alas his job being a police senior inspector could have cause the SF and crisis management to doubt themselves... well... is it really easy to kill a senior officer you know and respected and suddenly turned insane? If I remembered he was a decorated officer. Just some thought if we look at it at a psychological manner. Oh well... I smell racist era coming. :penguin:

Filipino's calling HK people, pirates and HK people calling us monkeys. >.> I have to admit it was the Filipino's who stoop so low, calling them names. What some of us just do is further destroy our image to the HK people. Let us all show what a true Peace-loving Filipino is like.

Have you seen P-Noy on the conference? His facial expression is like a smile and I think the Chinese people find it rude. Though I'm not saying P-Noy was actually smiling. It was due to his fixed facial expression (complex?). I'm not implying anything, but seeing the conference regarding a lost of lives. While everyone has a mourning sad expression, while his face shows a smile even with no ill intent. I looks rude. http://ph.video.yahoo.com/watch/8139926/21577944 Wow, my reply earlier was kinda supported by the video above. Who knew. :3

he must have some kind of... idk. but I do find it rude though. That smile really isn't appropriate for the occasion.

The point is... the negotiation wasn't handled properly. Everything went wrong because the police underestimated Capt. Mendoza. They all think he cannot and wouldn't hurt the hostages that's why they were handling it like it was nothing. They DIDN'T use their common sense. They did things that will agitate the hostage taker. AND wtf? SWAT team was a big flopppppppp!!!!!!!%#^$!%$@ throwing tear gas and they don't even have any masks on? what the hell? :-_-: The huge hammer that they were using to smash their way inside the bus even slipped inside. FAIL. The bus entrance can be open outside, usually there's a button under the bus near the entrance.

I really find it VERY MORONIC but I cannot blame those kids, I mean there ought to be rules in a crime scene like no taking pictures etc. You know how kids are, they think it'd be cool if they have photos like that. Unfortunately, the place was very open to the public and the police were also posing and taking photos. (It would be nice if they take pics if no one died! PLUS if the SWAT/PNP did their jobs smoothly... It was embarrassing to watch what they did.)
