And thank God, he finally opened the door and closed it gently; the sound of his footsteps faded away. I opened my eyes and touched my forehead. He kissed me goodnight. And it was warm; his breath was fragrant and warm. �Margaret?� Auntie Dae entered the room. I quickly covered myself with the blanket, �Y-Yes?� She sat down beside me and touched my hair, �He�s nice and very�� �Auntie,� I rolled my eyes and looked away, �He�s just my friend.� I closed my eyes and thought: Yes, Lord. He is nice. And he is very thoughtful. ��� �Who would like to represent this class?� Butch asked. I immediately raised my hand and asked, �What event, Sir?� I got curious eh. �It's the 'High Jump' competition, Miss Willamette,� David whispered. I glanced at the other side. I guess Aries doesn't care if I would join. �I'm in, Sir.� �I�m in, Sir.� We said simultaneously. I winced at Aries, who was laughing at me. Oh great, really. Natawa naman si David sa ginawa namin. �Not you too, David,� I pouted as he tapped my back. �Good luck, Marge.� �Mr. San Alvaro? Ms. Willamette? The two of you?� Butch asked calmly. I heard the whispers and the murmurs of the students. Napaka-ignorante talaga nila. Hindi nalang nila kami pabayaan. Palibhasa kasi hindi sila sanay mag-take ng challenges. �Yes.� �Yes.� I stood up and walked closer to Butch, �When is it?� �Three in the afternoon.� Today?! My eyes bulged immediately. 8O �Wow,� I went outside and banged the door. David followed me. Lagi naman eh. �What's wrong?� he asked as we went to the food court. �Nothing.� �Then why did you just bang the door awhile ago?� �I'm hungry,� I murmured and rushed to the cafeteria lady. �One Soda. Rice and Salad please,� I smiled and handed her my money. �Me, too.� We began to talk as we ate our food. Our discussions led to different things. Finally, he changed the topic. �Aren�t you interested of� like, pageants?� �Don�t have money, sorry.� �But are you interested in joining?� �You wish,� I rolled my eyes and chewed the vegetable. �Margaret, money isn�t a problem.� �It is a problem, David. My problem.� ��� �Go Margaret! L-O-V-E Margaret!� the girls cheered me as I gave my last high jump. L-O-V-E talaga no? Naalala ko tuloy yung vintage na television. All time favourite, SLAM DUNK. I gasped as I landed on to the ground. I felt relieved, knowing that I�d be the winner of this silly competition. �Eight feet and five inches!� Butch said loudly and my audiences screamed. I grinned at Aries. You�re going to be the next looser, Aries I thought as he walked closer to me. �Nice jump, Marge.� He whispered and there, he jumped. Eira was cheering for him � she�s so damn hyper. �Eight feet and five and a half inches!� �HALF?!� I screamed at him loudly, �Isn�t that four?!� �Would you like me to replay, miss Willamette?� he pressed the television to rewind it. Yeah. Five and a half dummy. Aries landed beautifully, not like me, very clumsy. At ayon, he just smiled at me. �Loser,� he smiled. �Yeah,� I smiled back, and shook his hand. Eira ran to him and embraced him. I felt weird, parang I�ve been stabbed straight to the pulmonary artery. I just sighed. I went outside and saw David�waiting for me. �You did great, Marge.� He gave me a high five. �Thanks� I forced a smile knowing na hindi naman ako yung winner. �See, you�re not a loser.� �Shut up,� I laughed my ass out. After a second, we were both laughing as we walked to that quiet corridor. �Aries looks at you as a winner too, if you just knew. You just kept on saying he�s your rival, and your etc. etc.� That made me stopped laughing. �Why are you saying this to me, David? I don�t even care what I am to him,� I shook my head in disgust. �Can�t you get the point?� He held my shoulders, �he likes you, Margaret.� �I don�t care and it�s not my-,� He suddenly leaned me against the wall. �And I like you, too.�
