We started eating and I was the first to break the silence. “Nga pala Lawrence, have you already met Dervin?” “Yeah. Actually nung game niyo nagkausap kami pero saglit lang. A while ago, we talked a bit rin. The next conversations rounded on Basketball, nakakatuwa naman kasi nagkakasundo kami. Nagka-debate pa over La Salle vs Ateneo, which we later on just shrugged off. Everything was okay until Lawrence threw a question at Nathan. “Nga pala Nathan, last time your cousin here told me na ikaw na lang ‘yung tanungin ko, so marami bang naghahabol sa school niyo dito kay Steph?” Wah. Magbablush ako. I know it. “Hay naku. Pa’no makakapanligaw sa kanya, eh lalapitan pa lang siya tinataboy na niya, right Dervin?” Lawrence looked at Dervin as if waiting for his respond. “Well, hindi naman sa gan’on. Sometimes she’s like that around guys but I guess most of the time she’s just too boyish. She may not realize that a love of boys would like to go out with her but are afraid that she would reject them.” Teka, galing ba ‘yan kay Dervin? Bago ‘yon ah. I smiled but didn’t say anything. I realized that everyone became serious. I stood up and announced that I’ll prepare the dessert.
