The cotillion practice had just finished and nauna nang umuwi si Meg. Palibhasa kasabay niya si Tristan kaya ayun oh, kilig na kilig naman siya. I went to the practice of the basketball varsity. Sabay na sana kami uuwi ni Nathan pero sabi niya hindi na daw kailangan. Weird pero I didn’t question it, umuwi na lang ako mag-isa. ‘Yun pala may naghihintay sa’kin sa may gate ng school, and Nathan knew it. I recognized the person right away and as soon as he saw me, ngumiti siya agad. Bumilis ‘yung heart beat ko. Hindi ko alam kung dahil sa kilig o marahil dahil na rin sa kaba. Either way, I knew something unexpected will happen. I smiled pero hindi ko sure kung ngiti nga talaga yo’n. Feeling ko mukhang pilit siya. I walked towards the person. “Hi Steph,” he greeted. “Hi Lawrence” “You’ve been busy. Pwede pa rin ba kita ihatid?” “Siyempre naman noh.” Napangiti naman ako. This time, hindi na pilit. “Alam mo Steph, na-miss kita.” Miss? How should I respond towards this? Anong dapat kong sabihin? I did miss him, pero kaunti lang. I guess I was preoccupied with other things that I didn’t really think about him that much. Yet saying that would cause him pain. Aixt… As if sensing my thoughts, he quickly added, “Not that I expect you to miss me too. Alam ko namang marami kang ginagawa.” With his statements, I just nodded. ‘Yung paghatid niya sakin sa bahay, parang ‘yun na yata ang pinakamahabang bagay na nangyari sa buhay ko. Ang tahimik kasi namin and honestly speaking, it’s not him, it’s me. Ilang akong makipag-usap sa kanya kaya whenever he would bring up a topic, it would immediately die down. Being finally at home, it was a great relief. Sa totoo lang talaga. When we reached my doorstep, just as I was about to say goodbye, Lawrence slowly took my hand. It was unexpected but I didn’t let go. He squeezed my hand gently as he spoke the words that I still carry up to now, “Steph, I love you so much and I’m willing to do anything to make you happy, even if it means giving you up. Tandaan mo lang, kapag iniwan o sinaktan ka niya, nandito lang ako.” He lowered his head down to mine and my body froze.
